I'm not sure how many of you have been following the ongoing attack on the small "Sky Kingdom" sect in Malaysia, but I think this is an important story that is not receiving that much coverage in the Western media, despite the fact that Human Rights Watch issued an alert regarding it about ten days ago. Today, things have gone from bad to worse, and the full story about how the kingdom was attacked is not yet out.
For more, about this, some great links and a discussion of how the current Malaysian regime can teach the Christian right a lesson, read on.

We're all obsessed with the question here, what is the right direction for the Democrats? Some say, left, some say center. Read on and take the poll...

I've done a few diary entries on abortion and choice, and read quite a few. It's very unclear to me where exactly Kossacks stand on this issue.

We've read it here, we've heard it on the Majority Report, we've read it in the papers. Some(mostly male) democrats are talking about playing political poker with our collective uterus as the chip. Thank goodness that there are some sane people here on Kos making the argument about why Dems need to stand up for reproductive rights, like
Kid Oakland
and Jane Knowles.

I had an interesting exchange with
"PBnJ"
in a diary I did about Malaysia and the Sky Kingdom, where a govt. closely allied w/the US government is persecuting a small, Christian friendly interfaith minority sect called "The Sky Kingdom." These peanut-buttery comments got me interested in doing a little google-research on the whole region. more below the fold...

in Chicago and boy, did that work to build up the excitement....read on for a story of the American street's comments on Rove. This story suggests that the time is now for action on the ground, not just on the blog. Read on and add your own stories of street conversations if you've had them.

I wrote a
blog entry
about the Malaysian "teapot cult" last night after my stepdad sent me an
article
about them. Today, there's more news, as their founder Ayah Pin has
disappeared.
and the police are looking for him so that they can charge him with more crimes. What's the background, and what't the connection between the Malaysian govt. and Bush's war on terror? Read on...

Have you heard people talking about Bush, Rove, and the leak...or any other political thing on the street, or on the subway or bus? Have you wound up in conversation with total strangers about any of these issues?

On my blog,
lefter,warmer
, I have a regular "Anxiety Index," where people post the scariest damn story of the day.
Today, my anxiety rose with the reports on the discussion of the Unocal sale. As usual, the business section is the place to find out the real driving force behind US foreign policy. The whole discussion now going on about Unocal, and the role that this company has played in directing US foreign policy in the Balkans and Afghanistan reminds me of the role that
United Fruit
played in US Central American policy. For some good links, (and to add to the anxiety index) read on.

I've been reading the news today and noticed the trend of reporters writing about the question of whether or not the Repubs will succeed in their spin as if it's anyone's guess, as if the press's own coverage of the issue doesn't play a role in the answer to the question. You know, these corporate media hacks pretend to be just as naive and innocent as the White House they shill for. All this makes me feel more strongly, when I didn't before, that we really should hold people like Judith Miller accountable for being part of a criminal conspiracy that began in the White House....and now the press corps is part of the cover-up.
there are some links to that and other stories below the fold..

Left-baiting the democrats...I don't understand it at all. That's what Ken Mehlman just did in his response to Howard Dean's response to the outing of Rove as the outer of Plame. He said:
"It's disappointing that once again, so many Democrat leaders are taking their political cues from the far left. ... The bottom line is the Democrats are engaged in blatant partisan political attacks."
Lots of folks have commented on this quote. I took a different tack, and did some research on the use of the term "far left" on the right wing blogosphere.
